The Sanctuary for the Arts is a sacred community rooted at the intersection of art, faith and social change. Through improvisation and artistic expression we become more fully alive in our connection with the divine and each other.

Join us the First Sunday evening of each month at 5:30 PM in the InterPlay Studio (2273 Telegraph Ave, Oakland). You can RSVP on our Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/sanctuaryforthearts/events

Our Mission

To provide holistic spiritual growth and healing to anyone who has ever felt creatively limited or frustrated in church and bring empowered renewal into our surrounding community.

Rev. Jeffrey Cheifetz

jeff-cropJeff is a Presbyterian Church (USA) Teaching Elder and transitional minister who has worked with churches in three denominations. Jeff enjoys long walks in regional parks, sunsets, reading, British detective TV shows (Sherlock! Foyle’s War!), just about any form of dark chocolate, tai chi, chai tea lattes, good friends, and spending  time with family. He occasionally blogs at jeffreycheifetz.org, and dreams of a world that wags more and barks less.

Amy Diane Shoemaker

amy-s4a-cropAmy is a Spiritual Director, dancer and InterPlay teacher living and loving in San Francisco. She enjoys salsa dancing, creamy milk chocolate, visiting her nieces in LA and is always up for mimosas in the park on a sunny day. You can visit her website to find out more about her work: amydianeshoemaker.com.

Jeff and Amy are both inspired by InterPlay, an improvisational movement practice based in affirmation that integrates body, mind, heart, and spirit.

Give Us A Try

If you have not felt welcome in other churches, give us a try. Our hearts, minds and communion table are open. We come together as a community to explore and celebrate the creativity and experience of all those who are willing to share in an embodied experience of God’s love.
